When an ordinary woven tarp is too flimsy but a heavy PVC sheet is more than the job needs, a mono cover tarpaulin sits in the middle. This green 170gsm mono cover is a competitively priced, mid-grade sheet for jobs that need a more rugged cover. It is built from a multifilament grid laminated in LD polyethylene, so it resists tearing and holds its shape under tension. It is used for hay, boat covers, roofing, construction and horticulture, and as a cover over rabbit hutches and chicken coops. It has 12mm aluminium eyelets at metre intervals on all four sides and plastic corner reinforcements.

Why it works

A reinforcing grid inside the sheet

Instead of a woven tape construction, this tarpaulin has a 3 x 3 multifilament grid that is laminated in LD polyethylene. You can see the grid as a fine square pattern through the green sheet. The grid carries the load and stops tears spreading, while the polyethylene lamination gives a smooth, waterproof surface. The result is a sheet that is tougher than a basic woven tarp but lighter and cheaper than PVC.

Waterproof and made to last outdoors

The sheet is waterproof, and it is rotproof, shrinkproof and UV protected. That makes it suitable for covers left out through the seasons, such as over hay, machinery or animal housing, where a sheet needs to keep the rain off without breaking down in sunlight.

Ready to fix

12mm aluminium eyelets are pre-fitted at one-metre intervals on all four sides, and the corners carry plastic reinforcements where a tarpaulin takes the most strain. There are plenty of fixing points for bungees, rope or ball bungees.

Choosing the right option

Measure what you are covering and add enough on each side to reach the ground or your fixing points. The sizes shown are cut sizes, the size of the sheet before it is hemmed, so the finished tarpaulin can be up to 30cm shorter. Allow for that when you choose. The 3m x 4m and 4m x 5m suit hutches, coops, garden machinery and small stacks. The long 4m wide sizes, from 4m x 6m to 4m x 10m, suit trailers, roof runs and narrow stacks. The 6m x 8m, 8m x 10m and 10m x 17m cover hay stacks, machinery and large work areas. Installation, use and care

Secure the sheet with bungee cords or ball bungees through the eyelets, using all the available eyelets so the load is spread evenly. We do not recommend rigid fixings such as cable ties or metal hooks, as they put too much strain on single eyelets. Tension the cover so it does not flap in the wind, and avoid pulling it over sharp edges. Brush off debris and let it dry before folding for storage.
