250gsm Heavy Duty Mono Cover Tarpaulin – Clear or Green Reinforced Grid Waterproof Tarp

When a job needs a cover that is genuinely industrial, tough enough for building sites, farms and long outdoor use, a 250gsm mono cover tarpaulin is the step up from standard woven polyethylene. Its strength comes from a multi-filament grid sandwiched between two hard-wearing polyethylene sheets. It is waterproof, rotproof and UV protected, with eyelets every metre and rope reinforced hems. Choose clear when you need daylight to pass through, so you can keep working behind or underneath it, or green for an opaque cover that blends into farms, gardens and yards. It comes in 16 cut sizes from 3m x 2.5m up to 16m x 9m.

Why it works

A reinforcing grid, not just a weave

Most tarpaulins are woven from flat polyethylene tapes. A mono cover is built differently: a multi-filament grid (3.2 x 3.2 per square inch) is laminated between two polyethylene sheets. The grid carries the load and stops a tear from running, and the two outer sheets give a smooth, waterproof surface on both faces. At 250gsm it is heavier and more rugged than our 170gsm mono cover, so it suits covers that stay out for a long time or take regular handling.

Clear for light, green for cover

The clear version lets light through, so it is widely used to enclose scaffolds and work areas, as temporary glazing over window and roof openings, and as a cover over greenhouses, cold frames and log stores where you still want daylight inside. The green version is opaque and is used to cover hay, machinery, materials and vehicles, where you want the cover to sit quietly in the landscape.

Made to be tied down hard

Eyelets are fitted at one-metre intervals around the edge, set into rope reinforced hems so each eyelet has a strong edge to pull against. That gives plenty of fixing points for bungees or rope, so the sheet can be tensioned tightly and will not flap in the wind.

Choosing the right option

Start with the colour. Choose clear if you need to see through the sheet or let daylight in, for example on a scaffold, over a roof opening or across a greenhouse. Choose green if you want an opaque cover for hay, machinery or materials. Then measure the area and add enough on every side to reach the ground or your fixing points. All sizes are cut sizes, which is the size of the material before it is made into a tarpaulin, so the finished tarp can be up to 30cm shorter. Allow for that when you choose. The smaller sizes suit greenhouses, cold frames, log stores and trailers. The mid sizes, such as 6m x 4m to 9m x 7m, cover vehicles, boats, machinery and single-storey scaffold lifts. The large sizes, up to 16m x 9m, enclose scaffold elevations and hay stacks. Both colours come in the same 16 sizes at the same price. If you only need a lighter cover, our 170gsm clear and green mono covers are a lower-cost option.

Installation, use and care

Fix the tarpaulin with bungee cords, ball bungees or rope through the eyelets, using all the available eyelets so the load is spread evenly. We do not recommend rigid fixings such as cable ties or metal hooks, as they put too much strain on individual eyelets. On a scaffold, check the fixings after strong winds. Keep the sheet off sharp edges, brush off debris, and let it dry before folding it for storage.

What is a mono cover tarpaulin?
