200gsm Black Heavy Duty Tarpaulin – Waterproof UV Protected Tarp with Plastic Eyelets

A black tarpaulin does jobs other colours can't. It blocks light completely, which makes it the choice for weed suppression, blackout and covering anything that must not be seen or sun-bleached, and it looks discreet over trailers, vehicles and stores. This heavy duty 200gsm black tarpaulin is made from super strong, tightly woven polyethylene, laminated on both sides, so it is tough enough for demanding farm and industrial work yet lightweight and easy to handle even when wet. It is waterproof, rotproof and UV protected, with eyelets every metre and double edged, rope reinforced hems. It comes in 19 cut sizes from 2m x 1.5m up to 18m x 12m.

Why it works

A tight 14 x 14 weave at 200gsm

The core is a tightly woven high strength polyethylene fabric with a 14 x 14 weave per square inch, laminated top and bottom. The tight weave gives the sheet its tear resistance and strength; the lamination makes it waterproof and gives it a smooth surface that sheds rain and dirt. At 200gsm it sits in the heavy duty range, well above a lightweight economy tarp, while staying light enough for one person to throw over a stack or a trailer.

Plastic eyelets that won't scratch

The eyelets, fitted every metre, are made from polycarbonate rather than metal. That means they will not scratch paintwork, boat hulls or glass when the sheet is pulled across or flaps against them, and they will not rust. They are set into double edged hems reinforced with plastic rope, so each eyelet has a strong edge to pull against when you tension the cover.

Black for blackout, weeds and a discreet finish

Because it is fully opaque, black is used where light matters: suppressing weeds and warming soil on allotments, covering silage and bales, blacking out windows, sheds and greenhouses, and covering stored goods that would fade in the sun. It also shows less dirt and looks tidy over vehicles, trailers and equipment.

Choosing the right option

Measure what you are covering and add enough on every side to reach the ground or your fixing points. All sizes are cut sizes, which is the size of the material before it is made into a tarpaulin, so the finished tarp can be up to 30cm shorter. Allow for that when you choose. The 2m x 1.5m to 3m x 3m sizes suit log stores, garden furniture, motorbikes and single allotment beds. The 4m x 3m to 6m x 5m sizes cover cars, small boats, trailers and larger beds. The 7m x 6m to 12m x 9m sizes sheet farm trailers, bale stacks and machinery, and the largest sizes, up to 18m x 12m, cover whole stacks, roofs and work areas. If you need the cover to let some light through, choose white instead; for a cover that blends into the countryside, choose green.

Installation, use and care

Fix the tarpaulin with bungee cords, ball bungees or rope through the eyelets, using all the available eyelets so the load is spread evenly. We do not recommend rigid fixings such as cable ties or metal hooks, as they put too much strain on individual eyelets. For weed suppression, peg the edges down and weigh the middle so wind cannot get underneath. Keep the sheet off sharp edges, brush it clean and let it dry before folding it away.

Does a black tarpaulin block light completely?
Yes. The black sheet is opaque, which is why it is used for weed suppression, blackout covers and protecting goods from sunlight.
