Within the super heavy range, GSM determines the balance between weight in hand and resistance to tearing, puncture, and UV breakdown over time. For permanent deployment where the sheet will not be removed between seasons, step up to the highest GSM your budget allows:
Entry super heavy duty — our most popular industrial PE grade. Suitable for construction groundsheets, haulage loads, agricultural use, and semi-permanent storage where the tarp will be moved or repositioned occasionally. Black/gold and green/silver variants available.
Heavy construction grade — the step up for demanding applications where 270gsm punctures or tears on site. Blue/beige finish is the standard specification for skip and waste industry use. Superior eyelet pull-through resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between PE and PVC super heavy tarpaulins?
PE (polyethylene) tarps are woven and laminated — they are flexible, lightweight for their gsm, UV-stabilised, and cost-effective for most industrial and agricultural use cases at 270gsm–350gsm. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) tarps at 420gsm+ use a completely different construction: PVC-coated woven polyester or nylon base fabric. PVC offers superior tear resistance, is fully waterproof without lamination, can be flame-retardant treated to EN standards, and is used where permanent or semi-permanent structural covers are needed. PVC tarps are heavier, less flexible in cold, and significantly more expensive, but they last considerably longer under permanent outdoor deployment.
Can I get custom sizes for super heavy tarpaulins?
Yes. We manufacture and cut super heavy weight tarps to custom dimensions up to 50m wide and effectively unlimited length. Are super heavy tarpaulins suitable for skip covers and waste management?
Yes — our 350gsm blue/beige super heavy tarp is the most widely used skip cover specification in the UK waste management industry. At 350gsm, the sheet handles the abrasion of sharp debris, the pull force of bungee retention systems, and repeated deployment. The reinforced brass eyelets at 75cm centres are designed for exactly this application. For compactor sheets and landfill liner applications, we recommend the 420gsm PVC grade which provides the additional chemical resistance and extended service life required.
How long will a super heavy weight tarpaulin last outdoors?
Service life depends heavily on deployment conditions. Our 270gsm PE super heavy tarps typically deliver 3–5 years in permanent outdoor use in UK conditions when correctly tensioned. The 350gsm grade extends this to 5–8 years in most applications. PVC grades at 420gsm+ are rated for 10+ years as permanent covers when maintained. UV exposure, mechanical abrasion from sharp edges, and incorrect tensioning (pooling water) are the primary causes of premature failure.
